Vineyards of Znojmo

The Znojmo vineyards represent the biggest vine area in the Czech Republic. The vineyards of the top quality are situated near Znojmo. They extend from Kravi hora to the south. Afforested hills protect them from the northwest. Sobes, a historical vineyard with a very old history, gives highly valued wines of excellent quality. Sauvignon, in this region of a high quality, is the most popular variety here. Gravel soils are suitable for "Ryzlink rynsky" [Petit Riesling], "Muller-Thurgau" and "Veltlinske zelene" [Veltlin green]. The wines, produced here, are aromatic and of a high quality. Vrbovec is the largest viticulture community. In 1895 the oldest cultivation station in the Czech Republic was founded here.
