Vineyards of Straznice

The vineyards of Straznice are situated on the slopes of "Bile Karpaty" mountain, composed of heavy clay soils and retaining sufficient level of soil water. White wines as "Rulandske sede" [Pinot gris], "Muller-Thurgau", "Veltlinske zelene" [Veltlin green] and especially "Rulandske bile" [Pinot blanc] reach the top quality. Blue vines, not too often here, give a hard red wine. Straznice, a historical little city, was important centre of the wine trade in a past. The state sanctuary is located at the bottom of Bile Karpaty, in a little village Petrov and wine cellars, called Plze, are the best known part of the reservation. The original wine cellars with white-blue frontage, situated at the foothill of vineyards slopes between Straznice and Hodonin, represent one of the most known viticulture region in the Czech Republic. The area is divided into 18 viticulture communities with 974 producers and 1,492 acres of vineyards.
